Volunteer Spotlight: Maarit Rowe
At French International, we are proud to have parents dedicated to positively shaping our school and enriching the lives of our students. Volunteering involves the entire family in a student’s educational life. Additionally, service is part of the IB educational philosophy as we teach students that we have a shared responsibility to our connected global community.
Maarit and Brian Rowe joined French International in 2022 when their daughter Gwendolyn enrolled in Kindergarten. Maarit immediately got involved with the Fête du Vin committee, attending planning meetings and assisting with the set-up and layout of the event. Members brainstorm and collaborate to make decisions on theme, decor, menus, and our wine partners. It takes the dedication of committed volunteers like Maarit to continue making French International’s long-standing traditions, like Fête du Vin, possible!
What drew you to volunteering for Fête du Vin?
"I was drawn to volunteering for Fête du Vin because I love working with others and being part of a community. There's a strong sense of pride that comes from seeing an event come together successfully, and I find a lot of joy in being part of that process. Plus, I absolutely love parties!"
What do you enjoy the most about your role as a volunteer? Any particularly fond memories?
"What I enjoy most about my role as a volunteer is getting to know the other parents and feeling like I truly belong in the community. It's rewarding to see how our efforts positively impact the school, and I love being part of something that helps make a difference. One of my fondest memories is the camaraderie that develops while working together on projects—those moments really make volunteering special."
What message would you like to share with our community about the importance of volunteers at French International?
"I would like to share that the sense of pride and community we build together as volunteers is truly special. When we unite with a common goal, we create an environment where everyone benefits, especially our children. The more ideas and contributions we bring together, the better we can shape a learning environment that helps our kids thrive."
Thank you to Maarit for her time and dedication!
