Seventh Grade Toulouse Exchange
Seventh graders have an opportunity to participate in an exchange with Toulouse students. For three weeks, French International students go to France, live with host families, and go to school with a host “sibling.” Three weeks later, the Toulouse students come to Portland.
From January 31 to February 18, 13 French International students traveled to Toulouse for the exchange. Each one lived with a host family and got to experience their host family’s daily life.
“It was cool to experience their normal lives. [My host student] walks to school, so that’s different than what I do.” - Nathan
“It was really interesting, and my family was nice. They made it feel like a second home.” - Madeline
Then, those Toulouse host students came to Portland on March 28 and left on April 14. They attended school with their French International host students and were immersed in family life here. The host families planned fun activities and excursions after school and on the weekends. Some took their exchange student to the beach, Seattle, and the Columbia Gorge, showcasing all the things the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
“We went whale watching and saw orcas because [my exchange student] loves orcas. It was fun to have someone keep me company.” - Nathan
The exchange experience gives students the opportunity to create global connections and dive deep into another culture. It’s an important part of our school’s mission and strategic plan as we educate global leaders and thinkers.
“I think it’s really special to connect with people from other countries.” - Madeline
