Third Graders Welcome International Visitor

Third Graders Welcome International Visitor

French International third graders got a visit from Clarisse, a French student who is traveling North America in a van.

Clarisse and her parents started their journey on the east coast of Canada and headed west. They drove across Canada and down the west coast making a stop in Portland to visit third-grade students. Clarisse and her parents shared a presentation on their adventures, what life is like in the van, the places they have visited or are visiting, how they do school, and what they have learned on the journey. The students got to ask questions after the presentation.

Third-grade students are exploring the theme of “Who we are” by diving into the central idea that “Values help shape our unique identities.” The students listened to Clarisse’s story and were able to see an example of how to tell their own story and that our unique stories make us special.

“Her telling her story helped me with my story,” -Angel

“She is unique, and we are all unique, so it makes our stories cool,” -Sadé

Finally, as part of our presence pillar, we seek to be a hub for international speakers, which enriches the learning for our students. Clarisse and her family’s visit was part of this commitment.
