Third Graders Explore How Life Changes Over Time

Third Graders Explore How Life Changes Over Time

As part of their unit exploring where we are in place and time, French International third graders dove into the central idea that “ways of life change over time.” Students learned about inventions, inventors, and the invention cycle, examining how new ideas emerge, evolve, and shape the world around us.

To bring their learning to life, students created a project they proudly called “Inventors News.” Working in small groups, each class prepared a puppet show interviewing a historical inventor. One student in the group played the role of interviewer, while another became the inventor, answering questions about their creation, the process behind it, and the challenges they faced along the way. Each performance was presented in both French and English.

The third graders then invited other classes to attend their shows, turning the project into a shared community experience. Performing for an audience gave students the opportunity to take risks, build confidence, and demonstrate their learning in a creative and engaging way.

“I think the coolest part was performing. I liked that we could share our work with other classes.” -Maggie

“I liked that we got to use microphones because it made the voices louder and it was fun.” -Ali

Through this project, students strengthened their collaboration and communication skills while showcasing their knowledge. They also offered younger students a glimpse of the exciting learning experiences that await them in the years ahead.
