September Global Mindset Moments
Throughout the year, we share weekly Global Mindset Moments on social media to demonstrate how our mission is playing out in our school and how we are fulfilling our Strategic Plan. Here are the August/September Global Mindset Moments:
Global Mindset Moment (September 27): Third graders got a visit from Clarisse this week, who is a student from France traveling North America in a van. She and her family drove across Canada and will visit sites around the United States and Mexico on their journey. Clarisse presented on her travels, how she does school in the van, and what her life is like. As part of our presence pillar, we seek to be a hub for international speakers, which enriches the learning for our students. We were happy to welcome Clarisse and her family on their journey around North America!
Global Mindset Moment (September 20): This year, we will be going through our Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) self-study and reaccreditation process. On Wednesday, we had the chair and co-chair of our evaluation team on campus. Russell and Chris are heads of schools in the Seattle area. They visited to check in on our self-study and meet with school leaders. We want to ensure we continue to grow and evolve as a school, and the self-study and reaccreditation give us intentional time to identify areas of growth. We will have our official accreditation visit in March of 2025.
Global Mindset Moment (September 13): Thomas and Nathalie's kindergarten class moved into their new classroom! This is one of two classrooms created in the space that was the Commons. The renovation is part of our full campus transformation and our place pillar as we create a unique and sustainable campus to enhance all of our programs.
Global Mindset Moment (September 6): Eighth graders are studying land, people, and indigenous cultures in Individuals and Societies. They are looking at bias to understand how various historical resources may share different information. They are also finding connections and distinctions between tribes and cultures. Here are a few photos from this week of Spanish and Mandarin track students researching North American tribes and looking at why sources share different information. All language tracks are diving into the same unit and teachers collaborate to plan units together.
Global Mindset Moment (August 30): As we kicked off the school year, we also launched our bussing partnership with Catlin Gabel. Our students have access to CGS's bus routes and are able to get to and from school safely. (This has also removed a number of cars from our pick-up and drop-off lines.) In our Strategic Plan pillar of people, we committed to establishing a transportation system to help expand access to our school. We are grateful to the team at Catlin Gabel for allowing us to partner with them on this program and help us fulfill our commitments to our community.
