Preschoolers Visit Fire Station

Preschoolers Visit Fire Station

Our preschool students recently took a walking field trip to visit our neighbors at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, where they learned about the important role firefighters play in our community.

Each class had the opportunity to tour the station, explore the equipment, see what firefighters wear, and even climb onto a fire truck. The build-up to the visit created a lot of excitement for the students, and the firefighters helped bring their learning to life.

In their current unit, preschoolers are exploring the central idea of “We depend on one another.” Students are learning about connection, cooperation, responsibility, and community. In preparation for the visit, they brainstormed questions to better understand the firefighters’ work and how they support others.

A highlight for many students was learning about the gear firefighters wear during emergencies, and understanding that, while it may look unfamiliar, it is there to help and protect. We hope to build both knowledge and confidence in our young learners.

Throughout this unit, students will hear from parent speakers, their teachers, and other school staff about their unique job and it’s importance in the community.
