Sixth Graders Enjoy Four Days at Outdoor School

Sixth Graders Enjoy Four Days at Outdoor School

From October 14-17, French International sixth graders experienced the high desert during their time at Outdoor School. The students left school on Monday morning, traveling to OMSI’s Hancock Field Station in Fossil, Oregon.

The program is an opportunity for students to have hands-on learning experiences in a camp environment. Students do activities to learn about the local environment, especially rocks, fossils, plants, and animals.

“Looking at fossils was really fun, especially the tree fossils.” - Sonia

“Yeah, there was this fossilized tree from when the area was more tropical. It was the coolest thing.” -Mabel

The week also included typical camp activities like bonfires, smores, games, songs, skits, and cabin time. Each group of students had different jobs to complete every day to ensure that things were clean and running smoothly.

Outdoor School is a French International and Oregon tradition giving sixth-grade students the opportunity to be in nature and connect with their classmates. Outdoor School is a particularly important part of our sixth grader’s journey as it allows students from all different language tracks to connect and get to know each other better.

“It was a great experience to have, especially if you haven’t been to a camo. It was a great experience with my class.” -Mila
