October Global Mindset Moments

October Global Mindset Moments

Throughout the year, we share weekly Global Mindset Moments on social media to demonstrate how our mission is playing out in our school and how we are fulfilling our Strategic Plan. Here are the October Global Mindset Moments:

Global Mindset Moment (October 25): Our Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) Coordinator, Julien, is starting to work with kindergarten students this year. He did a lesson with the students on light and shadow and gave them time to explore using the materials. In our Strategic Plan, we committed to creating a dynamic, streamlined STEAM program for all grade levels. Lower School students have dedicated time to work with Julien, and adding kindergarteners to the rotation will help us continue to build our robust STEAM program.

Global Mindset Moment (October 18): Yesterday, our school participated in "La Grande Lessive." French schools worldwide participate in this biannual event, creating art that is then hung on laundry strings outside to share creativity and joy. Each  La Grande Lessive has a different theme, and this year's theme was "same/not the same." Each class's artwork reflected that theme, which also ties into the current unit of inquiry that the Maternelle classes are exploring. Through our program and presence pillars, we continue to look for opportunities for our students to connect with global events and open our students' minds to the world.

Global Mindset Moment (October 11): We've been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month all across campus over the last few weeks. Middle School students presented to all Lower School classes on different elements of Hispanic culture like food, music, history, and more. Our Health Coordinator, Elmira, and Payroll Accountant, Valerie, taught some Latin dance classes. We had a parent volunteer cook with Middle School students and provided books and resources for classrooms and students of all ages. Our Heritage Month celebrations are part of our People pillar as we strive to create an inclusive community, celebrating the diverse backgrounds that make up our community while opening our students' minds to the world.

Global Mindset Moment (October 4): Pre-K students have had a few lessons on boundaries and communication. They read a book about the words "stop" and "go" and used puppets to practice asking for permission to give a hug or use someone's toy. We talk about programs that prepare in our strategic plan, and giving students the tools to set boundaries and have healthy communication will prepare them as they move through school and beyond.
