May Global Mindset Moments

Throughout the year, we share weekly Global Mindset Moments on social media to demonstrate how our mission is playing out in our school and how we are fulfilling our Strategic Plan. Here are the May Global Mindset Moments:

Global Mindset Moment (May 29): Our fourth graders have returned after an incredible Field Studies trip in Central Oregon. Throughout the trip, students explored nature, built community, and learned through hands-on experiences. From hiking around Suttle Lake and creating land art to boating and archery, students connected with the outdoors while growing together. The trip also included visits to the High Desert Museum and Seed to Table Farm, where students deepened their understanding of Oregon’s ecosystems, wildlife, and sustainability. Field Studies gives students the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom, strengthen friendships, and connect as a class. We’re so grateful to live in a region with such incredible natural resources and opportunities for exploration.

Global Mindset Moment (May 22): Mandarin track sixth and seventh graders are learning about fairy tales in the language and literature class. After writing their own stories in Mandarin, students visited some first graders to share their work with younger students. It was a wonderful opportunity for our older students to practice communication and presentation skills while inspiring curiosity about language and culture. When we talk about programs that prepare, we emphasize collaboration, creativity, and language as students learn to use their voices to connect with the world around them.

Global Mindset Moment (May 15): Our first Maternelle Read Around the World Night was awesome! We had 12 parents from our community reading stories in their native languages. It was an evening celebrating the rich language and culture that make up our community and promoting joy in reading and storytelling. We want students to be curious about the world as they grow into global thinkers and leaders.

Global Mindset Moment (May 8): Each year, our eighth-grade immersion students present a speech as part of the Voice of the People unit. This week, students in Mandarin track visited International School of Portland to present their speeches. Their speech topics were healthcare costs, artificial intelligence, world hunger, the effects of school start times on student health, and college tuition costs. This was a wonderful opportunity to represent French International in the greater Portland area, and our students were great representatives of our school.

Global Mindset Moment (May 1): Our eighth graders wrapped up their Shakespeare unit by adapting A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Importance of Being Earnest to the modern world! This fully student-led project required groups to write scripts, design sets, and choreograph scenes to create their own original adaptation. It was a fantastic way for students to demonstrate their understanding while building teamwork and creativity.
