Maternelle Site Work Continues as Campus Transformation is in Full Swing
As 2024 came to a close, the work on the French International campus transformation ramped up with crews and materials moving forward with the four new Maternelle buildings.
Since the end of November, our contractor, Carbon Construction, and their subcontractors have:
- Cleared the site and prepared the building pads for the four Maternelle buildings.
- Completed structural mock-ups for the buildings, windows, and roofing to help verify materials, detect problems, practice any complex assemblies, and identify design or installation issues.
- Finalized fire protection and plumbing plans.
- Construct the concrete forms for the first two Maternelle buildings (Building H, which will house preschool, and Building F, which will house TPS)
- Poured concrete for the first Maternelle building (Building H, which will house preschool), including the footing and lower-level walls.
Additionally, we have submitted our Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to the City of Portland for approval. The CUP will allow us to accommodate more students in our buildings and must be approved before we can submit building permits for the Lower School buildings. We anticipate CUP approval in June and will then apply for the Lower School building permits.
This project will be funded through campaign philanthropy, our campus redevelopment fund, and strategic borrowing. The Grow with Us: The Campaign for French International has surpassed the $2 million mark with 47 donors. Additionally, we have applied for two grants and should hear about those awards at the end of April.
Our campaign continues to have conversations with leadership donors as we work towards our $8 million goal. This transformational project will enhance the educational capabilities of our school and would not be possible without the generosity of our entire community.
