Maternelle Classes Perform Spring Shows

June 3, 4, and 5 were exciting days in Maternelle as preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten performed shows for their families.

Each day began with three classes, one from each grade, gathering in the Maternelle courtyard before families moved to classrooms for individual performances. The shows were created by teachers and students to reflect the learning that has taken place throughout the year while highlighting the confidence and language skills students have developed.

For our preschool students, whose final unit of inquiry focused on the needs of living things, performances centered around animals. Pre-k students, who spent the end of the year exploring how living things change and grow, brought themes of plants, growth, and transformation to life through songs, stories, and performances.

Kindergarten students performed Le Mariage de Souricette, where they memorized lines and learned stage directions. Their performances showcased their language development and their readiness for Lower School.

The Maternelle performances are always a highlight of the school year, offering families an opportunity to witness firsthand how much their children have grown academically, socially, and emotionally. This year was extra special as the shows took place in the new Maternelle buildings.

The performances also reflect an important aspect of our International Baccalaureate philosophy. By stepping onto the stage, students practice being open-minded and courageous risk-takers, qualities that help them grow in Lower School and beyond.
