Volunteer Spotlight: Madison Bonham

Volunteer Spotlight: Madison Bonham

At French International, we are proud to have parents dedicated to positively shaping our school and enriching the lives of our students. Volunteering involves the entire family in a student’s educational life. Additionally, service is part of the IB educational philosophy as we teach students that we have a shared responsibility to our connected global community.

Madison Bonham serves as an Annual Fund Representative, a liaison between parents and the development team, and leads classes in the spring Annual Fund Participation Competition. The primary purpose of this role is to inspire a culture of giving and to encourage families to support the Annual Fund, one of French International’s most critical fundraising efforts. The Bonham family joined French International during the 2023-24 school year when their daughter Genevieve was in preschool; they now also have son Julian in TPS.

What drew you to volunteering for the Annual Fund?

The highlight of my daughter's first year (PS) was having the bunnies visit campus. Seeing photos of the kids brushing bunnies on their laps made my heart so happy, and I know it was a memorable experience for her as well.

The Annual Fund supports what makes the day-to-day experience of French International so incredible - library books, technology, field trips, Discovery Park, the chicken coop, Fête de la Musique, speakers on campus, professional development for our teachers… and so much more! Supporting the Annual Fund has a real impact on our kids’ school experience.

What do you enjoy the most about your role as a volunteer? Any particularly fond memories?

I love seeing the tangible impact of our participation. My husband, Jeff, helped move furniture to new classroom spaces after the ice storm last year, and it was then I truly realized the extent of collaboration between the school and its families. From the food donated for teacher conference days to families maintaining the forest together, it is wonderful to see the large role we play in achieving the school’s mission and shaping the culture of our community.

What message would you like to share with our community about the importance of volunteers at French International?

French International thrives on the support and generosity of our community. In our short time here, I've learned there is a role for everyone, big or small. Everything is meaningful, whether it is class laundry, contributing to staff potlucks, serving on committees, or chaperoning class events. Family involvement also models the importance of commitment and shared responsibility to our children. Our community is amazing!

Thank you, Madison, for all your hard work!
