Author Laura Nsafou Spends Time with Kindergarten, First, and Second Graders
Author Laura Nsafou visited our school on March 13 and 14 to connect with students, read her book, and do a project together.
Kindergarteners, first, and second graders had workshops with Laura. She talked to them about what goes into publishing a book and then read her story, "Comme un million de papillons noirs" (Like a million black butterflies). She also did a workshop with each grade.
Prior to the visit, kindergarteners learned about butterflies and their transformation and symbolism. After listening to Laura read her book, the students showed her an art project they did with butterflies, and colored more butterflies together.
First and second graders worked on a collaborative butterfly project with Laura and each other. Each student wrote a kind thought or word to celebrate each person's beauty and uniqueness, and put it together as a class project.
Laura's visit was an opportunity for students to learn from a French speaker from outside our community, enhancing the experience for all students and aligning with our presence pillar. It was also a chance to celebrate differences and what makes each individual special and unique.
