Maternelle Students Participate in La Grande Lessive
October 17 was La Grande Lessive, a global art event in which groups all over the world display art related to a particular theme with the goal of spreading joy and fostering global connectedness. Groups from more than 130 countries participated in the most recent event showcasing their art to the world.
La Grande Lessive is a biannual event and translates to The Big Wash. In its namesake fashion, art pieces are hung on laundry strings outside to share creativity and joy.
Each La Grande Lessive has a different theme and this year’s was same/not the same. The theme ties in to many of the current Maternelle units of inquiry. Preschoolers are exploring the central idea of “We're all different; we're all the same,” and pre-k classes are diving into the central idea of “There is a diversity of human beings.” Both grades were able to tie the art project in to what they are studying in class.
Each TPS through kindergarten student created an art piece that was displayed in front of the main administration building. Classes took time during the day to visit the art and look at what everyone created. Our students were part of more than 13 million people who created art for the October La Grande Lessive.
