Author Hashley Auguste Visits K-5 Students

On March 5 and 6, author Hashley Auguste visited campus to lead workshops with students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Hashley is originally from Haiti, and her visit created an opportunity for students to experience the richness and diversity of the Francophone world through her unique perspective.

During her time with third, fourth, and fifth graders, Hashley talked about her journey as an author and answered questions about her writing process and career. She also spoke about her home country of Haiti, highlighting cultural distinctions and connections among French-speaking communities around the globe.

For the younger students in kindergarten through second grade, Hashley read her book “Je suis Cieba” and led a discussion about confidence and self-esteem. Afterwards, students reflected on their own strengths by identifying personal qualities they are proud of.

Experiences like these bring language learning to life. They align with our Presence pillar to make French International a leader for international and multilingual studies, culture, and events in the region. By connecting with French speakers from around the world, students deepen their cultural understanding, broaden their perspectives, and continue building the skills and curiosity needed to become thoughtful, globally minded leaders.
