Global Connections Through the MLF Network

Global Connections Through the MLF Network

Four years ago, first-grade teacher Camille Reuff started an international pen pal exchange program with Marie Augros. This month, Marie visited French International.

MLF Monde has been in partnership for years with DIJON academy. This partnership enables teachers to participate in exchange programs between schools worldwide. French International works with the MLF, and through this partnership, Camille and Marie connected. Marie teaches at an EMILE (Content and Language Integrated Learning) school in France. Students from our school have been exchanging letters, ideas, and experiences with first and second graders in Cluny.

Thanks to a grant from MLF Monde, Marie Augros spent two weeks visiting French International to observe and learn about French immersion education in the United States. During her visit, Marie observed classrooms across multiple grade levels to understand how language immersion is implemented throughout the school. She also had the opportunity to meet with teachers, engage with students, and experience daily life in the French International community. A Maternelle family hosted Marie during her stay, providing a firsthand experience of family life in Portland.

Programs like this highlight the power of international collaboration in education. By connecting classrooms, educators, and students from different countries, French International continues to create meaningful opportunities for global learning that are central to our mission.
