Get to Know the French International Development Team

A square graphic with photos of Shawna, Charlotte, Monica, and Noelle

Like most independent schools, French International relies on the volunteering and financial support of the community to help make the school extraordinary. The French International Development team oversees fundraising, coordinates volunteering, and helps plan community events. Get to know the four members of the Development Team below.

Shawna Foster, Director of Development

How long have you worked at French International?
Four years in January!

What languages do you speak?
English and Spanish

What is your favorite thing about working for French International?
The sincere love that teachers, parents and students have for our school. Our community cares so deeply.

What are you most proud of (can be personal or professional)?
Helping to prepare our school, and the Development Department, for the upcoming Capital Campaign, which is the most ambitious in the history of French International! It has been years of planning, and it's so exciting to see the campus plans develop and begin conversations about how we can bring this campus transformation to fruition through philanthropy.

What is something you do in your role that most people don't know about or that would surprise people?
So much of my role is getting to know our families. I wish I had more time to get to know everyone better!

A fun fact about you?
I have run three marathons! I also did a three-week trek in Nepal in 2018.

Charlotte Bouaziz, Assistant Director of Development - Annual Giving and Engagement

How long have you worked at French International?
I joined French International in January 2023. It's been 11 months now; time flies!

What languages do you speak?
I speak two languages; my native language is French, and I learned English in sixth grade when my family moved to the United States.

What is your favorite thing about working for French International?
I feel incredibly lucky to work in a language immersion school that celebrates diversity and represents so many different cultures and languages in our community. Saying "Bonjour" every day truly warms my heart. I also get to witness the positive impact we have on our students' lives every day. The commitment and dedication of our community to make our school special is truly inspiring, and I am proud to be a part of it.

What are you most proud of (can be personal or professional)?
I’m proud to have taken a leap of faith by moving to Portland to join the French International community as the Assistant Director of Development. It has been a pleasure to contribute positively to the growth of the development team. I am thrilled with the new initiatives that I have implemented for the Annual Fund, including the return of Annual Fund Representatives, faculty and staff giving, and the numerous positive conversations I have had with our community about the Annual Fund.

What is something you do in your role that most people don't know about or that would surprise people?
Working in the Development Team can be really exciting! We get to organize and participate in all sorts of events like Fête du Vin, the Gala, and Grandparents and Special Friends Day. When these events come around, we all pitch in and take on different roles - sometimes, I feel like a florist arranging bouquets, while other times, I find myself slicing French baguettes. There is always something surprising to do!

A fun fact about you?
Since 2021, I have been pursuing my passion for wildlife by learning how to use a camcorder to track and document animals in their natural habitats. My ultimate goal through this documentation is to highlight the significance of every animal in our ecosystem, from the most majestic ones to the less popular ones.

Monica Perez, Development Events Coordinator

How long have you worked at French International?
One year, started in August 2022

What languages do you speak?
English and Spanish

What is your favorite thing about working for French International?
I love working with our community! Committees make our events possible, and their creativity, passion, and drive make my job so much more fun!

What are you most proud of (can be personal or professional)?
I'm most proud of Fête du Vin! It's not an event I've seen other organizations do, and it's such a fun, unique event. Last year was my first time seeing it, so I'm proud of how well it went, going in "blind" so to speak - this year went even better!

What is something you do in your role that most people don't know about or that would surprise people?
Planning takes a lot longer than someone might think. I'm already thinking about the 2025 Gala!

A fun fact about you?
Since graduating college and before working here, I've been in two positions - one doing fundraising events at a nonprofit, and one teaching English at a bilingual school in Spain. This job is the perfect venn diagram of those experiences!

Anything else you want to add?
Feel free to say hi at my desk in the front office! I'd love to chat about ideas and brainstorm!

Noelle Stiles, Advancement Services Coordinator

How long have you worked at French International?
Since November 2017

What languages do you speak?
A little French and a tiny bit of Spanish.

What is your favorite thing about working for French International?
The integrity and values of the FI community and the many ways this translates to being able to enjoy what I do. Working around and to support children is joyful.

What are you most proud of (can be personal or professional)?
Lately, I'm feeling proud of the small business I started a few years ago and being an auntie.

What is something you do in your role that most people don't know about or that would surprise people?
My position involves working with data and our database. I also jump in at times to assist with everything from event support to graphic design projects.

A fun fact about you?
I'm a dancer.
