Global Connections: German Students Spend Two Weeks At French International

Global Connections: German Students Spend Two Weeks At French International

From October 3 through the 17, French International Middle School had 15 students and two teachers visiting from Pfullingen, Germany. The students stayed with French International host families who showed them around Portland.

The German visitors attended school, and French International teachers put together fun classes for them. The students also shadowed their host students and connected with the school community. The German students gave a presentation to the seventh and eighth graders about life in Germany, their schools, what they do for fun, and typical German foods.

On the weekends and days off from school, host families took the German students to explore more of Portland and the Pacific Northwest. The host families did some typical autumn activities like apple picking and visiting the pumpkin patch. They went shopping at some popular stores like Nike and Columbia.

The host families also gave the German students an opportunity to learn more about home life in Portland and the United States. This was also a chance to connect with our partner school in Germany, which will host eighth graders later in the year on their international trip. Hosting a student is an opportunity to forge a connection with someone from another country and share about cultures, traditions, and experiences.
