Fifth Graders Celebrate the End of Lower School

Fifth Graders Celebrate the End of Lower School

On June 11, the French International community gathered to celebrate a significant milestone, the completion of Lower School for 43 fifth-grade students as they head to Middle School.

The festivities began with a French International tradition. Fifth graders paraded through campus while students, teachers, and families lined the route, cheering them on and celebrating their accomplishments.

Following the procession, students and their families gathered in the gymnasium for the ceremony. Each student received a certificate of completion, recognizing their hard work and growth throughout Lower School. Fifth-grade parents created a slideshow pairing baby photos with current pictures to show how much the students have grown.

The ceremony also featured musical performances by the fifth graders, including a moving rendition of For Good from Wicked and an original song performed by the entire class.

For many students, this moment marked the culmination of a journey that began in Maternelle. Completing Lower School is a meaningful achievement, representing the conclusion of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and years of academic, social, and personal growth.

These fifth graders leave Lower School with a wealth of experiences and memories. This year alone, students traveled to France, shared their talents during Fête de la Musique, and made an impact on both the French International and Portland communities through their Exhibition projects.

Most members of this year’s fifth-grade class will continue on to Middle School at French International, where new opportunities, challenges, languages, and friendships await.

Congratulations to our fifth graders on this important accomplishment. We are proud of all they have achieved and look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in Middle School and beyond.
