February Global Mindset Moments

February Global Mindset Moments

Throughout the year, we share weekly Global Mindset Moments on social media to demonstrate how our mission is playing out in our school and how we are fulfilling our Strategic Plan. Here are the February Global Mindset Moments:

Global Mindset Moment (February 27): During our February ACE Week, students traveled across continents through hands-on arts and cultural experiences. From cooking and crafts to stories and games, each day highlighted a different region of the world. Even through our Extended Learning programs, we want to spark global awareness, creativity, and collaboration in our students while celebrating the rich diversity of cultures that make our world so vibrant.

Global Mindset Moment (February 21): We’ve been celebrating Lunar New Year across campus! Parent volunteers visited classrooms to read stories, lead activities, and share their own New Year traditions. The Middle School hosted an assembly featuring songs, traditional dances, and even taught the community a few Mandarin sayings for the holiday. This is how global learning comes to life. By sharing cultures from around the world, we help students grow in empathy, curiosity, and compassion, which are essential qualities for thoughtful global citizens.

Global Mindset Moment (February 14): Some of our seventh graders have been in Toulouse for the last 2.5 weeks. They stayed with host families and attended the local school. In a few weeks, the Toulouse students will come to Portland and stay with our families. This partnership and international exchange are essential to who we are, giving students the skills and confidence to thrive in an interconnected world.

Global Mindset Moment (February 7): Third graders have been exploring simple machines as part of their unit on technology and innovation. To apply what they've been studying, students designed their own Rube Goldberg machines to deliver a sugar cube into a cup of coffee. This hands-on project combined science, creativity, and teamwork, giving students the chance to demonstrate their knowledge, problem-solve together, and build confidence as their ideas came to life.
