February Global Mindset Moments
Throughout the year, we share weekly Global Mindset Moments on social media to demonstrate how our mission is playing out in our school and how we are fulfilling our Strategic Plan. Here are the February Global Mindset Moments:
Global Mindset Moment (February 28): Over the last five days, 95 students have been on campus for our ACE Week programming. Depending on their age, students explored biology, chemistry, physics, or paleontology. Through all of the departments of our school, we have the same mission to educate curious and critical thinkers. Our Extended Learning team was intentional about the learning and discovery happening in the classrooms this week to give students the opportunity to inquire, explore, and grow.
Global Mindset Moment (February 21): This week, some of our Maternelle teachers participated in a Primary Years Programme (PYP) workshop here on campus. They learned how to develop your PYP framework in early childhood. In our Strategic Plan, we committed to leveraging professional development for teachers. This training helps our teachers in the classroom and, therefore, enhances the student learning experience.
Global Mindset Moment (February 14): Third graders are exploring the central idea of "Technologies help us share with others." Part of this unit includes learning about simple machines. The classes have been working on Rube Goldberg machines, a machine that performs a simple task in a complicated. They've used a variety of materials to create their projects, which solve problems like feeding the fish or turning off the light. In our Strategic Plan, we committed to streamlining our STEAM program and ensuring it aligns with students' units of inquiry, which our STEAM coordinator and teachers regularly assess.
Global Mindset Moment (February 7): Kindergarteners are exploring the central idea of "People need shelter, which comes in different forms." They connected that unit to our campus transformation and had a visit this week from Rob of Carbon Construction. Rob and Jackson talked to the kindergarten classes about the materials we are using in the new school buildings. Then, the classes made predictions on the sequence of events in how buildings are constructed. It's fantastic to bring what's happening on campus into the classroom and give students opportunities to make connections to their future learning spaces.
