Eighth Graders Perform Adaptations of Shakespeare

Eighth Graders Perform Adaptations of Shakespeare

Eighth graders wrapped up their unit on William Shakespeare with a fun final project, creating and performing modern adaptations of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Importance of Being Earnest.

After reading the plays in their English classes, students were given full ownership of the creative process. They created original sets, rewrote the scripts, and brought their own ideas into the performance. Students collaborated closely to develop their concepts, build characters, and translate Shakespeare’s themes into modern language.

Students also directed their scenes, choreographed movement and blocking, and designed their own sets and props. This hands-on approach challenged them to think critically and creatively while strengthening their collaboration and communication skills.

The project culminated with performances in front of their peers. Students demonstrated an understanding of the text and the ability to interpret, adapt, and bring literature to life.

Projects like this highlight the power of student-led learning. By combining literary analysis with creativity and performance, our eighth graders deepened their appreciation for Shakespeare while building confidence and teamwork.
