Danish Gymnasts Visit French International

Danish Gymnasts Visit French International

On October 9, an amateur gymnastics team from Denmark visited French International, performed for students, and hosted a workshop for fifth and sixth graders.

The Dejbjerglund Gym Team features 34 gymnasts who performed two shows at French International. Preschool through sixth-grade students were all enamored by the performance, which featured dancing, tumbling, and high-flying stunts through the air. After the shows, fifth and sixth graders participated in a clinic with the team. The students learned different tumbling moves and even got to try out some of the equipment.

The gymnasts, coaches, and team staff stayed with French International host families. The gymnasts got to learn about life in Portland, and the host families learned more about Danish culture.

Performance gymnastics is very common in Denmark, and it is all about creating a fun, engaging show for the audience. French International was part of The Dejbjerglund Gym Team’s North American tour, which included nine shows and four workshops across the West Coast of the United States and Canada.

The Presence pillar of our Strategic Plan states “We will make French International a leader for international and multilingual studies, culture, and events in the region.” Being able to host Danish gymnasts and forging a connection between the team and the French International community aligns with our commitment as we open students’ minds to the world.
