Apple Picking Sparks Hands-On Learning in Pre-K

Apple Picking Sparks Hands-On Learning in Pre-K

On September 16, all three pre-k classes went apple picking at Bell’s Orchard. Since the trip, apples have been the centerpiece of so many activities.

The classes picked lots of apples at the orchard. They have used the apples to make apple sauce, apple cider, and apple cake. Pauline’s class even had a parent join to make dried apples with the students. The activities help students build their gross and fine motor skills, allowing them to experience new things.

The students also tasted different types of apples, comparing and contrasting the different textures. They voted on which type of apple they liked best and discussed how everyone in the class has different preferences.

In addition to the baking, the students have done art projects and read stories about apples. They will look at the apple seeds through a microscope to see what they look like up close.

The experience provided countless learning opportunities for students as they settle into the pre-k routine and grow into curious and critical thinkers.
