AAPI Heritage Month

AAPI Heritage Month

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Throughout the month, the AAPI Heritage Month committee created opportunities for the rest of the school community to learn and celebrate the impact of AAPI culture.

The committee created a Japanese Kanji writing station for the rest of the school to enjoy. Teachers brought their classes to create their own work. On May 27, kindergarten assistant teacher Casey hosted an all-day spring roll workshop. Maternelle, Lower School, and Middle School classes visited throughout the day and created their own spring roll snacks to enjoy.

The committee also put together an AAPI Padlet with resources for teachers to incorporate into their classes this month. The resources included read-aloud videos from Middle School teacher Kelly and her students.

The AAPI Heritage Month committee is one of ten committees formed to recognize, honor, and celebrate different cultures at French International. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee developed the plan for Heritage Month celebrations, which is part of the strategic plan pillar of people. The celebrations have been a school-wide success as we incorporate different cultures, languages, and traditions into our educational programming.
